TOTEM EN KIT

- wooden sculpture, composed of 32 inter-modular square surfaces - 2015

Totem: n.m. 1. Object that is used to visibly assume its belonging to a group or an identity, especially in the Amerindian tribes.

2. Signage device used in advertising.

Composed of 16 square faces in 2014, more than 30 in 2016, here is a wooden sculpture, both modular and mobile. Each installation in space is ephemeral. Adapting itself to the place in which it takes place, subject to the constraints surrounding it, it tells a different story during each of its uses. Inspired by La Dérive as defined by Guy Debord, by movements such as Fluxus or Stalker, this is my first project taking place in the public space. It is with questions such as the appropriation of the street, the link between the nomadic inhabitant and the city that these few square surfaces are born and will multiply over the years. Without ever finding the form that really suits me, this sculpture accompanies me in Montreal, Angoulême, Bordeaux or Caen. As a research and meeting tool (with the city, the places that dot it, its inhabitants) it is also at the origin of several questions: What interaction is maintained with the street? How is it viewed? How can we do it ours ?
